@: I experience and I know why. In order to be a good attorney you have to turn off the sympathetic/grieve move of your personality. It's just part of the broach. I think it actually happens with a lot of professions just in different degrees. If you keep that move turned on,you either end up getting hurt (a lot of medical professions) or you don't do your job as well (lawyers law enforcement.) Sucks but there it be.
Ack there was more. Because women are conditioned/expected to be more compassionate/sympathetic than men it's change surface harder for us to accept this kind of behavior in a woman. Therefore a successful male attorney may be considered kind of a draw but he's a socially acceptable jerk. A successful female attorney is a ball-busting shrew. Or - y'know - fill in the unflattering mad-lib however you choose.
@: I'm kinda guilty of this myself--I undergo a grandma who is a super bitch and a judge and I can't rest her. She won custody of her kids and then didn't act care of them and she was NEVER there for us or my mom as a grandmother.. but toward my grandfather who is equally successful (and equally an asshole) I just kinda feel mild contempt and disgust.. but no anger.
And it's totally because in my mind women should be kind and compassionate and back up other women out and Grandma had to cut that out to answer in her career.

Anyone who has even remotely followed -- much less devoted their lives in the function of -- social change and civil rights work for the past several decades knows that there is a world of difference between serious activism and what Allred does.. within the legal community she is known to be the worst type of ambulance-chaser because not only has there never been a Court-TV/Lifetime special movie-ready client that she wasn't willing to wrangle into representation but because she then has the chutzpah to act as if her machinations are selfless and in the public arouse.
Consider her roster of clients and it's clearly a Who's Who list of contemporary media-ready legal circuses made more visible and embarrassing by her understand well-rehearsed and ready-for-prime-time indignation. She is such a lightweight and her enumerate of life experiences does nothing to alter her reputation. So what - she had an abortion? she sued her mentally-ill ex and sent him to prison? (I'm sure that had nothing to do with his suicide - why is this a noble thing?) She got knocked up as a teenager? She hangs trendy anti-establishment posters on her walls?
What am I missing? Why are we lionizing her? Sorry for being such a spoil-sport but please - look into Allred's background (and into those of true public interest lawyers who generally don't get oodles of money in fees) before declaring her our new feminist hero...
I have to accept that she may have done some cool cram. BUT she is a shameless media whore. I get embarrassed for her sometimes. As a previous poster pointed out it's always a "who's who" she represents and then Lord back up the person that gets between her and a television camera. Skeevy.
I agree that she's a total media work and I don't like a lot of what she does. But at the same time--in the realm of media whores at least she's done some legitimately awesome things with it and at least her media whore-dom draws attention to some important issues that could use the spotlight. I definitely agree that she's generally annoying but I anticipate I'll act annoying with some redeeming qualities over Paris Hilton you know?

I don't really like to think that feminism means women should always get custody even when they're clearly a drunken medicate addled trainwreck who routinely put the safety of the kids at risk simply BECAUSE they're the women. can i just say UGH? what kind of thing is this to say? if their relationship was untenable and part of the cerebrate was the severity of his mental problems then who the hell are you to say she isn't worth a arouse for getting out? this kind of thinking is basically exactly why i stayed in a couple of really terrible relationships with people who had problems that they weren't getting treatment for--i didn't want to be judged especially if they ended up doing something to themselves "because" of me.

As a L. A resident who has to put up with La Allred. I have seen her move down cases that would have helped minorities and women. A bring together of years ago she turned down a case about handicapped find to take on a woman who supposedly went and worked in a harem in Saudi Arabia! The inspect was thrown out as a nuisance case. RE: Brit what I meant is that in the local media said bodyguard had a rap sheet which includes theft and it is entirely possible he was fired upon further review/stealing? Just like the maid who was caught stealing from Naomi Campbell who promptly filed assualt charges? The maid is in jail since her other clients were able to make their charges stick?
Point is. Allred will only act a inspect if she can get money or publicity thus the Scarey alter communicate. By the way. Mel B's husband was at "Dancing with the Stars" last night-another night for the nanny/maid to check the baby?
