"Being a Whore for Hallowe'en or Just Dressing Like One" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 16:11:12

Hmm... got me thinking. An excerpt:cater the sexy-costume backlash: teen and tween girls who bucking the marketing hype and peer compel are resisting the ever-growing course of provocative wares. This year there are more risqué apparel options for girls than in previous years retailers say. In addition to the "classic" sexy genre of cut maid nurse and cop trashy "Paris in Jail" costumes and even a naughty schoolgirl version of Harry Potter's Hermione are competing for favour. Manufacturers are accommodating the new reality says apparel retailer Stephane Abbat of Toronto's It's My Party hold on: Hence the wide availability of "extra-small" sizes in eye-popping styles that are seeing the light of day in high-school hallways. But with the turn even more pronounced at Halloween some girls such as Ms. Ali are saying enough is enough and are even getting together to obtain and act costumes of a different nature. Now. I undergo to say that I undergo been guilty of this but it was not when I was in elementary or high educate. In high school. I remember going as a spice Spice or Cyndi Lauper. My most "provocative" costume was in my first year of University dressed as a cop but according to a who saw pictures it really wasn't that riské and I would agree. This year. I was choosing between Ariel (Little Mermaid ) and Jessica Rabbit (Who Framed Roger hunt) both provocative engrave. I chose Jessica Rabbit because I wasn't comfortable wearing only seashells. But why am I choosing these arguably provocative trashy characters? Truthfully there is a limited number of redheaded characters out there to represent. I see the concern that many undergo over this observation that 14-25 year old women seem to be to slut it up every Halloween. On one transfer. I experience in that if you dress conservatively 364 days a year just one measure you be to let loose and try it on for coat. On the other hand. I try to understand the be to want to dress trashy even one day a year. It reinforces my belief that women actually lost the sexual revolution. While we are no longer "enslaved" into having sex with our "male-head-of-household" within the "chains" of a monogamous marriage. What does being "empowered" actually mean?Does it mean having ?I am not always able to surprise my favourite television show (and I dislike commercials) so I often download them (illegally). I use a torrent search(Not Safe For Work.. or School Library Computer either....) suggested to me. This is NOT sexual empowerment. Encouraging the audience to chanting the word "c*nt" at a Vagina Monologue show is not empowerment. I say these things not from an ignorant anti-feminist perspective. I undergo been to two VM shows and for one of them I was an actor! Is it a good thing that women now do insist on condom use and do apply their alter to say "no". ABSOLUTELY! But are the sexually empowered ladies/characters from shows desire Sex and the City of Desperate Housewives just promotes the sexualization of women. The mixed messages from "virgins" (at least they were when I was a teenager) of Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson (who are married and divorced before 30) also don't displace the right communicate. So what did sexual liberty gives us?I invite a positive and contradict list in the comments divide. For men/boys and women/girls To add to the conversation a little bit off topic... There was a inspect from UVic a few years ago that I could express I blogged about but all I could find was this. Basically the air was that women dressing well not provocatively to be sure but in a way where their thongs were exposed. That wasn't the issue per se so much as the fact that guys were using their camera phones to take pictures and distribute them on the internet. Everyone started freaking out about pictures being taken of things in plain public view as though this was the worst thing in the world. Empowerment evidently didn't extend as far as some would like to evaluate.***Apropos of the topic trying to approach it from something other than a legal standpoint. I accept somewhat. I'm wary of the social consequences of empowering 12 and 13 year-olds without requisite increases in responsibilities. At the same measure though. I'm reminded of Glenn Reynolds' argument is that what we need is more exposure to sex and violence in today's youth grow. If Robin Williams' is any indication it might just be for the best ;) [ADVERTHERE]Related article:

Polyfill pubic hair and fabric vaginal lips and clitoris adorned the entrance to the Curris Center Theater Monday night at Murray express's innovate of the "The Vagina Monologues."Despite the name and the connotations the word "vagina" may displace for some people the show sold out and had some attendees in standing dwell only. The "Monologues" originated in 1998 after the success of Eve Ensler's compete. "The Vagina Monologues," which tells both the light-hearted and serious stories of various women's issues such as assail self-discovery mutilation orgasms and empowerment. Faye Daigler freshman from Louisville and "Monologue" direct member was pleased with the turnout for the compete. "I'm really thrilled populate showed up to an event like this," Daigler said. "You can undergo fun and learn at the same time." She said the turnout proves some populate are willing to experience something new. "I thought it was a great undergo and (the program was) educational," Daigler said. "It brings up things populate don't communicate about."Jessica Shaw senior from O'Fallon. Ill. said she was expecting to undergo a good time at the play and attended the production because it is for women and their empowerment. "I heard some parts are funny and some are dramatic," Shaw said. Shaw said she hoped the "Monologues" made people more aware of women's issues. Men also attended the production. Nearly an even be of men and women attended the "Monologues." Patrick Keeling junior from Bardstown said he attended the performance because he had heard a lot about it. "I go to plays in Louisville a lot and it was performed there last year," Keeling said. "I read about it there." He said the subject matter of the play which covers several "uncomfortable" subjects was a reason for going."Women's sexuality is a lot more hidden than men's," Keeling said. "It's not that hard for a guy to be sexual in the world because it's expected. The compete showed how difficult it is for women."Keeling said the play helped show what is like to be a sexual woman and what women undergo to go through because being sexual is not expected of them. "They're not supposed to be sexual," he said of what society expects of women. "It's not womanly." Keeling said watching "The Vagina Monologues" made him view women in a different way. "It was a good show," he said. "I would definitely go back and see it again."The stage on which the women performed was simply decorated with a white accent with a large color "V" in lie of it. At the front of the re-create were three microphones and music stands and a number of chairs on either side of the re-create. The 20 actresses in the play who were lined up on either side of the re-create lit candles "for women who were forgotten shamed and silenced."Katie Buffalo junior from Paris. Tenn. said the show was definitely a success because of the large crowd and if the show is performed at Murray State in 2006 a bigger venue will be needed. Although cow said she ordain not be allowed to be the director of the show again she will definitely act in any capacity needed if the play is produced again on campus. Ten percent of the $2,500 proceeds ordain go to help Iraqi women while the sell raised ordain go to the Murray State Women's Center. [ADVERTHERE]Related article:

"The Vagina Monologue: Sarah Silverman's The Bomb" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 20:29:22

Also about measure night's : What the hell happened to Sarah Silverman? Either she intentionally walked the dwell or she just didn't reach to put together anything involving a monologue but either way it was a completely cringe-inducing performance. We've pulled the only two bits that actually made us express joy. This much like the remaining 20 minutes of awards show material that I subjected myself to was such a delicious flop that it sent draw gushing out of my nose. Anyone sight the death stare she gave the audience before exiting the re-create? Now THAT should have made the funniest moments! I got the feeling her monologue was cut way bunco -- possibly for time or maybe because somebody realized that combining racial gratify with making fun of the honorees is bad enough when it's done by Chris Rock much less open Kimmel's skinny Hebraic girlfriend. As a television professional. I can tell you the first few minutes of any half hour are crucial to ratings. I'm sure the suits at MTV were cringing through Britney & Silverman as they heard the collective clicks of remotes turning away throughout the country. Sarah Silverman is a part of that certain cause of female comedians (of which there are a ton of in New York) who realized long ago that they weren't pretty or talented enough to make it as a serious actor or model so they turned to comedy. It's the one medium where they ordain be the most attractive player in the assort and they can acquire a lot of attention for that. silverman showed real audacity (or was it clueless-ness) in being so meanly critical of wreck-in-effect britney while bombing herself a few moments later britney is not the only one who may undergo "already accomplished everything she is going to accomplish in life"!!!!! NB: Brit's kids did not come out of her hairless va-jay-jay.. she had C-sections. Which incidentally is why any defense of her chub-ness along the lines of "give her a break she's had 2 kids" is bogus. The girl had a tummy close in after unloading each kid. That muffin-top she's rockin is all Chee-tos. As I said before when you are struggling to make fun of performers at the VMAs you experience you must be a pretty bad comedian. And enough with the Paris jokes.. especially when you deliver them well. I can only evaluate that last night's show convey GWBush is doing his job correctly and we are on the verge of an apocalypse. Sarah Silverman HAS been funny. See: Whose the Caboose and control Season some of her material of the "Jesus is Magic" era much of her Comedy Central show. I think she's one of those comics that get so much attention for a while that they think they can "go it" and don't bother to alter for gig and think everything they say is automatically funny. I once went to an extremely expensive Janeanne Garafalo gig where she basically construe some random thoughts off of a notepad for about 30 minutes. And I do think SS is "hot in a Jewy choose of way" (her evince). Singers who cannot sing are one thing. Comedians who are not funny are something else entirely. You can't just act a pretty face & package it into a comedian the way you can take a pretty face & package it into a singer. Comedy always requires talent. There are no backup dancers lazer light shows or lip-synching to studio enhanced jokes that can distract from that lack of talent. Oh come on she's working in the finest Vaudevillian tradition where the Jewish assort is played to the hilt in a politically incorrect way. Your great-great grandparents loved that shtick. Obviously for Sarah the challenge is in finding how many different ways she can inform us that she is a large-nosed person of the Jewish persuasion. But a cute one. Who sucks. Dick not ass. Well maybe both. Goodnight everybody! The only thing I recall her doing well at was playing the hyper-bitch girlfriend in educate of Rock. She was so convincing. I evaluate the whole audience was watching the wings waiting to see if Britneigh would act up behind her and stick a stiletto boot in her continue. Who's this gal's agent anyway? And why do they keep putting her in these awards-show-host gigs? Must be actor welfare. @: Actually. I guess if I saw her walking drink the street in Manhattan without knowing who she was (especially in those crummy clothes she always wears). I wouldn't be that impressed. It's probably just the fact that she's not ugly which is almost shocking these days for a comedian. It's her relative attractiveness. I anticipate. I'm on Team Silverman. Um she was on Mr. show people. Seriously are hosts of these things EVER funny? There's something about the format that is just inherently awkward and everyone bombs. Although I did always check Billy Crystal host the Oscars and loved his opening monologue tying all the nominees together in song it was classic. And no. I'm not 45 years old. Ahhh whatever. @: This is as adjust as the inevitable quarterlife crisis that hits all semi-hot male actors around age 29 when they cognise their agents aren't going to coddle them anymore and they're going to start having to take their bartending go as seriously as their change state habit. @: First the other chick on Mr. show was a hell of a lot of funnier then her and I think any funny congrats on that show be given to the writers (not sure if she was one). I totally agree that award show change is lame. But if that's adjust then why even reach? If you experience most of your jokes are gonna get shitted on by the network and your audience is as dumb as a box of door nails and you be a good reaction to alter any of your jokes near funny why not be home? @: It's called contractual obligation. Mtv is owned by Viacom which also owns Comedy Central which is home of the Sarah Silverman schedule. She CLEARLY didn't want to entertain this mess so she barely did and in a way that assures she ordain not be welcome approve... I did sight it funny that MTV itself open the awards move so dull that they had to keep flipping around to the various Suite Parties in an act to spice it up. The one good thing? They claimed that they will only show it just this once. Kudos to them if they act this promise. @: Eegh um. I'm not really a huge fan of Silverman but I evaluate you are offbase about the failed actress or model thing. Comedy is much harder on the self-esteem than modeling or acting so if you failed in those pursuits its totally illogical to turn to funny. You are insulting the trade as come up as someone who is likable or not a pretty hardworking performer. approve before disobey was working for The Man he wrote a post about SS being not considered attractive in any other profession but standup and it stuck with me. change surface during educate of move back and forth I thought "that T-muffle guy is right about her! Mike White should totally get her for homoerotic cohabitation and unpaid afterschool daycare!" Since I was alone on the couch watching Showtime noone answered me. Jesus change the fuck up. Some people desire her others don't get a grip. Are you people fucking 5? Sometimes she is funny sometimes she is not imo. Hey. I saw Jerry Seinfeld twice be and he sucked... Obviously MTV wanted her approve from last year so there are populate who like her act. Oh and speaking of hold back isn't Sarah Silverman in a movie with the fat guy from Curb?? Yes she is! So obviously they think she is funny too. [ADVERTHERE]Related article:
