Why do we have to go through bad things in our life?Why is it that good doesn't always overcome evil?I suppose we'll never know. But a wise friend did once point out that it is those who have to go through the worst in life who have the strongest character. Here's what I do know:I know that we all have crap that we go through in our lives. Some of us have to go through more crap than others.. it all depends on how you look at it. I suppose if I really wanted to. I could argue that I have the worst life out of anyone I know. We all could argue that. But what would be the good in that? Where would I be able to grow and learn from being hateful and pessimistic?Here's something that will come as a bit of a shocker... I appreciate every lousy thing that has ever happened to me. I have never learned so much or have grown so much from those times in my life. If I went through life and never had any obstacles to climb over. I wouldn't have to try for anything. Life would be served to me on a platter and I would end up like the girls you know whose lightbulbs never fully turn on and all they think about are superficial things. Well to be blunt. I'm better than that. I'm real. Could I have turned out the way I am today without having to go through the crap that I did?I'm not sure I could have. The people who have never had to go through anything bad at all and yet are still so strong and aware and compassionate - now those are the people that I admire. And so yes. I laugh. And yes it gets on people's nerves. But why shouldn't I laugh? There always seems something to be happy about. No matter what. And yeah.. people do stupid stuff. But not only stupid some people do terrible awful things.. things that I can't even begin to understand why they do such things. But that's just the thing - I'll never begin to understand what must have put them in such a state of mind that they would do such terrible things.. things that shatter all previous thoughts of human integrity. Because the truth of it is we all start out innocent and somewhere along the way bad things bad people come along and affect infect us. And those who have lost their innocence are mostly the people who take away other people's innocence. And so here I am. Not as strong as you think I am. Because the truth is... I'm still affected by things that happened in the past. Continually affected by it. And for the longest time. I've shut it all away and let it eat me up and truly thought that if I never thoughtany bad thoughts that it would be as if it never existed. The times that I probably seemed the happiest - when I laughed the most - were my worst times. None of us are as strong as we seem. But some of us take a stand not to live superficial lives and to say it how it is. And we laugh because we've realized.. there's enough pain in world without having to go look for it.
