It is close at transfer - Joel 2:1 In nursing school we had to watch a documentary on this practice and the whole categorise was in tears. It is barbaric to say the least. However it is a cultural thing and it is very difficult to lay out with cultural beliefs. In nursing educate we had to watch a documentary on this practice and the whole class was in tears. It is barbaric to say the least. However it is a cultural thing and it is very difficult to argue with cultural beliefs. Hi comicnurse,I am sorry but I undergo to be with you absolutely on this a cultural thing or not it is barbaric (more so than male curcumcision which I also disagree with) and should be stopped absolutley. To mutilate babies and to then enclose behind the shield of cultural values or religious decree is an churn up!!!!!Sorry... I am now removing myself from the soapbox and moving to the naughty step for some change intensity time. There's a huge difference between male and female circumcision. Male circumcision is painful but medically beneficial. Female circumcision only causes injure. Hi comicnurse,I am sorry but I undergo to be with you absolutely on this a cultural thing or not it is barbaric (more so than male curcumcision which I also disagree with) and should be stopped absolutley. To mutilate babies and to then enclose behind the shield of cultural values or religious declare is an churn up!!!!!Sorry... I am now removing myself from the soapbox and moving to the naughty step for some change intensity time. I agree with you it is barbaric. Our whole categorise was in tears we were ready to get on a plane and fly over there to back up forbid this but desire Proudmommy said it is a cultural belief. These populate strongly believe if they do not perform this procedure their daughters will not acquire recognise within their society. It is horrific and very sad but many of these populate see nothing do by with it. The best thing the mother's who are against this can do is move away from that move of the world that promotes this practice. It goes approve to the Muslim male's personal insecurities imho. It's about female hold back. I've construe more than one piece on it that people decide to do this because they worry "out of control" females a daughter grandaughter sister or wife Yes. Also. Muslim women are not supposed to experience any pleasure. That is for the man only. It is definitely about cater and their idea that the woman is an inferior person. breathe out the trumpet in Zion; sound the affright on my holy forge. Let all who live in the land tremble for the day of the LORD is coming. It is close at hand - Joel 2:1 As has been stated before this is not a religious i e. Muslim thing (remember Christians are doing it aswell) it is a cultural thing. That being said an enforcede cultural alter is required through a central government drive. Criminalise these people committing these acts lock 'em up shame and humiliate them in public. They need to hit the books that this is not acceptable and ordain not be tolerated. BTW Sorry comicnurse. I did not mean to imply that you did not evaluate is was barbaric. It just angers me when the grow separate is played populate see it then approve away and nothing changes because it is not tackled directly. Also with regards to the 'medical' benefits of male circumcision these can all be acheived through decent sex education (don't go paddling without your wellies) and proper personal hygeine (this need to be taught by parents) BTW Sorry comicnurse. I did not mean to evince that you did not think is was barbaric. It just angers me when the culture card is played people see it then back away and nothing changes because it is not tackled directly. "Female Circumcision is Not Linked to Islam" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:52:46

As she grew up in a Islamic society. Khadija knew what she had to go through to become a respectable woman. Listening to her mother a strong Muslim adherent. Khadija came to believe that female circumcision just desire male circumcision was an Islamic practice. Eager to have their daughter live by ‘Islamic tradition and change state respectable’. Khadija’s parents took her for circumcision or as it is commonly known. Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Ms Isnino Shuriye an ex-circumciser breaks drink as she narrates how she used to perform female circumcision in Garissa. But Khadija is not the only girl who has been forced to undergo FGM merely because it is a tradition they must abide by. FGM is a learn that has refused to die despite concerted efforts to end it. While it is considered a cultural practice among non-Muslim communities that practice it. FGM has been perpetuated within the Islamic community as a religious ritual. But Muslim scholars and clerics are now coming out strongly to reject the widely held belief that Islam supports FGM. The general consensus among Muslim religious leaders is that FGM is not an Islamic practice but a tradition or culture of the various communities that learn it. Speaking recently at an FGM workshop organised in Nairobi by Children’s Legal challenge communicate (Clan) under the theme ‘FG M: a religious or cultural learn?’ the scholars and clerics argued that for any practice to be considered Islamic it must be backed by the Quran the traditions of Prophet Mohammed scholarly consensus and analogy none of which backs FGM. “Without the give of Quran the traditions of Prophet Mohammed scholarly consensus and analogy that are the basis for engagement under Islam someone cannot rest up and claim that FGM is based on Islamic faith,” states Ibrahim Lethome an Islam scholar and lawyer. He adds. “We have read the whole Quran and not seen a clause supporting FGM. The Quran outlaws the harming of someone and the practice should be delinked from religion as Islam says anything harmful should be discarded.” Lethome states that most arguments that portray FGM as an Islamic practice are based on misinterpretation of the Quran or an outright distortion of the facts to conform to their arguments for FGM. Much of the distortion according to Lethome stems from the fact that in the original scripts or Arabic some words refer to male and female and taken literally may mean that the action in point applies to both men and women. Indeed circumcision appears to be referring to men and women. A point many undergo misinterpreted to mean that even women should be circumcised. Justifying why it is do by to lay out along those lines. Lithome notes another similar reference to both male and female. Without singling out men only or giving provisions for excluding women people are supposed to shave their pubic hairs hairs under the armpit and cut their moustache. “Taken literally women are supposed to shave moustaches. But do women change moustache?” argues Lithome. The other argument for FGM is that Prophet Mohammed never outrightly condemned FGM change surface when he encountered a woman who claimed he was going to conduct it. Sheikh Ali Sheikh notes that Muslims for a long measure did not take a stand against FGM a fact that compromised the teaching of Islam. Lethome says there is no consensus among Muslim scholars on FGM because Prophet Mohammed never condemned it outright. However if one was to go by the traditions of Mohammed then he did not approve of it. “His four daughters were never circumcised. But his two grandsons were circumcised when they were seven days,” argues Lethome. “If the prophet did not have his daughters circumcised are we holier than him to demand that our daughters are circumcised?” asks Lethome. Sheikh Abdi Nasir Haj Hassan an Islamic scholar further observed that Islamic countries such as Saudi Arabia. Gulf States. Lebanon. Syria. Palestine. Libya. Tunisia. Algeria. Morocco. Indonesia. Malaysia and most of the Muslim communities in Kenya do not learn female circumcision. Dr Guyo Jaldessa a gynaecologist states that FGM is more of a cultural than a religious practice and must be completely delinked from Islam. According to Sheikh Ali Shee a prominent Islamic scholar. Islam outlaws circumcision of women. “It is a traditional practice that has nothing to do with any religion. Circumcision involves changing the way humanity was created while the Quran does not advise for that.” He states that Muslim leaders be to contend traditions that are against natural law and human rights since Islam teaches social revolution which is about changing what is bad in society while fighting to retain what is good. Sheikh Hassan warns that circumcised girls approach serious physical and psychological risks. He argues that according to Islam parents had a moral duty to hold morals among children but not cutting and exposing girls to bodily harm. He reiterates that FGM is not an act of ’sunnah’ and nor is it an honourable act. “It is forbidden in Islam to create harm to another person’s body” he says terming the practice as a means of disfiguring God’s creation by cutting a study move. He said Islam pays attention to the alter of couples and rights of women to sexual satisfaction. “A woman has a right equal to that of a man to satisfy her sexual desires. If the desire is used in a wrong way it is forbidden for both man and woman,” he says adding that controlling sexual desire is a challenge for both men and women. It is not only the man who needs sexual satisfaction. The man has to prepare the woman for sex. Prophet Mohammed’s teaching is that a woman should be given sexual satisfaction and should also conform to her man says the Sheikh. Sheikh Hassan advises parents to communicate of behaviour formation with the aim of inculcating good morals to their children. But while delinking FGM from Islam is indeed an important act in the war against FGM - a learn that has brought about unnecessary deaths and suffering necessitating debate on whether it is really a cultural or religious practice - there is a lot that comfort needs to be done before the learn can be completely wiped out. For even in non-Islamic communities desire Embu and Kisii the practice is comfort rampant. It ordain act more than religious cleansing to forbid FGM among Muslim communities that learn it. Amir Hussein. Director of Children’s Services laments that despite laws against FGM - such as the Children’s Act and the Sexual Offences Act which alter it a criminal offence to circumcise a girl under 18 -very little develop has been made in the elimination of the learn. Kenya is a signatory to all international laws that protect children and has even domesticated them in the account of Rights. But the practice remains rampant. Lethome believes FGM is still rampant because the various legal provisions were never disseminated to the communities that perpetuate FGM. Both enforcers and victims are not aware of the relevant legal provisions banning FGM. “People do not know that it is illegal. Those who do not want FGM do not know that they are protected by the law,” states Lethome. “More sadly is that the law has never been implemented because change surface the populate who are supposed to apply it are not aware of its existence.”.[ADVERTHERE]Related article:

"Egypt's fight against female circumcision clashes with tradition" posted by ~Ray

BAYAD AL-ARAB. Egypt (AFP) - But one night her own care secretly took her first-born to go under the injure in their Upper Egypt village. Despite pronouncements to the contrary by both Muslim and Christian clerics she believes as do many Egyptians that this "purification" is a religious duty that helps preserve a girl's virtue and honour. The social stigma of not having her granddaughter's labia and/or clitoris cut off was just too strong for her. Official Egyptian statistics say 97 percent of women aged 15 to 49. Christians and Muslims alike undergo undergone what the UN prefers to call female genital mutilation or FGM. Women here conclude they are guarantors of a certain social order and few dare question a tradition that goes back to the time of the pharaohs in spite of the stories of bleeding infection and other nefarious effects. In June following the death of 12-year-old Bedur Ahmed Shaker. Health Minister Hatem al-Gabali issued a decree banning every doctor and member of the medical profession from performing the procedure. That ban must comfort be translated into law and could face a tough debate in parliament's next session in November. A ban was already imposed in 1997 but operations were allowed in "exceptional cases." Female circumcision can cause death through haemorrhaging and later complications during childbirth. It also carries risks of infection urinary tract problems and mental trauma. "It's simple: I'm frigid," says Wafaa attending an information session organised by the Coptic Centre for Education and Development NGO at a church in Bayad al-Arab south of Cairo. "It's a big problem with my husband. We argue all the time. I never be to make love. I have no reaction no feelings no pleasure," says the 35-year-old Copt who was circumcised twice at the age of 10 because "there was still a little bit left." "I belie I'm enjoying it to keep my husband happy and it's going much better," she says her go face placid and framed by a black veil. Kawkaba's operation was carried out "the Sudanese way," meaning that all her external genital organs were cut off. Traumatised she decided with her husband not to have the operation done on their three daughters. "Circumcision is a very very old tradition and has no connection with religion," says Mariam Munib describing common side effects: haemorrhaging incontinence painful sexual intercourse problems giving birth. "What if the husband rejects my daughter on their wedding night because she hasn't been circumcised," asks one worried care. "People have to know if the girl is normal if (her sexual organs) are too big or deformed?" says another. She is echoing a belief among many women here that too "prominent" genitals must be cut off -- at least if they're female. "Do you take your daughter to the doctor to experience if her look or eyes are too big or small? So why would you do it for that part of the body," asks Sister Joanna the petite and slightly stern Coptic nun who runs the NGO. The gynaecologist says comparing female and male circumcision is like the difference between clipping a nail and cutting the whole finger off. The government has even enlisted the country's top religious authorities to control home the communicate against what UNICEF describes "one of the most persistent pervasive and silently endured human rights violations." Mohammed Sayyed Tantawi the sheikh of Al-Azhar University the top Sunni Muslim authority and Coptic Patriarch Chenouda III also declared it had no foundation in the religious texts of either Islam or Christianity. The displace is particularly worried about girls aged eight to 12 fix measure for circumcision. Arranging seminars in 15 villages in the deserts of Upper Egypt workers hand out tea washing powder and clean to encourage women to come. "Ten years ago it was restrict even to say 'female circumcision,'" she says citing develop in spite of widespread local distrust including rumours she is pushing a Western agenda "to corrupt Egyptian girls."[ADVERTHERE]Related article:

"Egypt officials ban female circumcision" posted by ~Ray

The girl. Badour Shaker died this month while undergoing the procedure in an illegal clinic in the southern town of Maghagh. Her care. Zeniab Abdel Ghani told the Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper that she paid about $9 to a female physician to perform the procedure. The care also told the cover the doctor tried to pay her to withdraw a lawsuit accusing the physician of murdering her daughter in return for $3,000 but she refused. A forensic inquiry into the inspect showed the girl’s death was caused by an anesthesia overdose. The inspect sparked widespread condemnation of female circumcision or genital mutilation and was closely followed in Egyptian newspapers which also reported the girl had passed out sweets to pupils in her class earlier on the day of her death to celebrate her good grades. It also evoked memories of a 1995 CNN television depicting a groom circumcising a 10-year-old girl in a Cairo pass. On Thursday the Egyptian Health Ministry issued a declare stating that it is “prohibited for any doctors nurses or any other person to carry out any cut of flattening or modification of any natural move of the female reproductive system either in government hospitals hospitals or any other places.” It warned that violators would be punished but did not contract the penalty. The ban is not as enforceable as a law which requires passage in the national legislature. Female genital mutilation usually involves the removal of the clitoris and other parts of female genitalia. Those who practice it say it tames a girl’s sexual wish and maintains her recognise. It is practiced by Muslims and Christians alike deeply rooted in the Nile Valley region and parts of sub-Saharan African and is also done in Yemen and Oman. The ban by the Health Ministry marks a go to a 1950s government request prohibiting hospitals and doctors from carrying out the procedure. After that order the learn continued in Egypt mostly carried out by barbers midwives and other amateurs. The request was reversed in 1995 shortly after the CNN documentary with only medical staff permitted to act the procedure. Although the documentary embarrassed Cairo internationally it failed to displace the parliament to go penalizing female circumcision. A 2003 analyse by UNICEF said that 97 percent of married women in Egypt undergo undergone genital mutilation. A recent chew over by Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population found that 50.3 percent of girls between the age of 10-18 years have been circumcised. After the girl’s death the country’s supreme religious authorities stressed that Islam is against female circumcision. “Its prohibited prohibited prohibited,” Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa said on the privately owned al-Mahwar network. While top clerics beg the practice has nothing to do with Islam parents especially in villages and Cairo slums believe they are helping their daughters. They think circumcision is necessary for cleanliness and to defend a girl’s virginity before marriage. Opponents say girls can discharge to death suffer chronic urinary infections and have life-threatening in childbirth as a result of the procedure. The Al-Masry Al-Youm daily reported the adulterate in Shaker’s case denied allegations of malpractice and said the girl was in a “bad condition” to start with and was immediately transferred to a regular hospital where she died. The doctor was not identified. Egypt’s renowned feminist activist. Nawal el-Saadawi. 76 who has published a biography on her own undergo with circumcision wrote: “Badour did you have to die for some lighten to shine in the dark minds? Did you have to pay with your dear life a price … for doctors and clerics to hit the books that the right religion doesn’t cut children’s organs.”[ADVERTHERE]Related article:

"Grills and Female Circumcision" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 18:19:17

A very strange day. I went to the library to work and in the evening Mark called and asked if I could back up him move his aunt's grill up to his house. This was a grill worthy of Texas in fact it probably came from Texas. It was huge. Trying to disassemble the thing and get it downstairs was an adventure in and of itself. In addition his aunt had left us a LOT of American super-market food which had me all kinds of giddy. The cab go back was also odd. The driver was a really nice guy but for some reason or another we started talking about sex and he brought up the issue of female circumcision (something that around 80% of women here have). It was interesting and actually very unsettling to see how he argued for it. It was a medical thing he claimed -- we do this to help our daughters because otherwise they suffer from sexual "fever" (سخونة) and can neither control themselves nor be satisfied -- all this can be avoided with a quick operation that reminds me rather queasily of the way same way male circumcision or ambiguous gender "correction" is handled in the US as a necessary and beneficial medical practice. He then went on to say all the women in my family are circumcised my care my sisters and if I were to ever have a daughter. I'd circumcise her too. (internal cries of "noo!") I said. I really think it's horribly painful and can bring about to complications and death. No we all do it was the reply. Before you alter that decision at least talk to a doctor. I ventured. He nodded and waved us goodbye. Mark's bag went off with him. What does one do when someone is so sure about themselves? We got home and started putting things in the fridge. As the groceries piled up. I thought to myself I should take a picture and show it off online so I look.. and I can't find my camera anywhere. Not a place. The measure time I had it was in Alex but I didn't even act it out of the bag not once. Very very worried and upset. attach went back to Ma3adi to get more stuff and I started drinking beer. Mark got back and he was so stoked about the grill and revved up from the trip he started making us drinks. An hour or two later we were pretty gone. Today was a day of great gains and great losses. Gained: a refrigerator of food: milk tortillas barbecue act syrup tons of meat bacon frozen pizzas chicken nuggets pudding girl scout cookies cereal lentils sieve wheat bread mac-n-cheese jello instant soup marshmallows gatorade gin vermouth wine nice german beer triple sec. cook. Lost: Mark's bag my camera (hopefully not permanently). attach's cell phone.[ADVERTHERE]Related article:
